The Bay Film Series at Bay College announces its Fall 2026 schedule. For over 30 years, the Film Series has celebrated the art of filmmaking, showcasing art house, international, and award-winning movies.
We begin on October 22, with the independent film Olmo, billed as “the next great coming-of-age story.” This film was a fan favorite at both the Berlin and Toronto International Film Festivals. Slant magazine says, “This chronicle of a self-absorbed teenager learning to step outside his own world may be familiar in its broad outlines, but Fernando Eimbcke’s maturity and lack of judgment imbues it with a warmth that makes it feel fresh.” Rotten Tomatoes score 96%.
On November 12, we’re showing Hadestown: The Musical, which had a five-day US limited release in late July. Hadestown won eight Tony’s in 2019, and while this filmed version is not eligible for Oscar consideration, it has broken box office records for live-capture theatrical performance. With two intertwining love stories — young Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and his wife Persephone — Hadestown takes audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Rotten Tomatoes score 97%.
We conclude this year’s shows on December 3, with Finding Emily, a British rom-com that’s an independent international hit. Praised by critics and audience members for its comedy, genre, and performances, this film will put a smile on your face. The Seattle Times says this movie ”is just quirky enough, with a lovely sense of place and a few effective nods to When Harry Met Sally for the rom-com completists.”
All Film Series movies are shown in Bay College’s Besse Theater on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. EST. General admission: $5.
