For 35 years, the Bay College “Swing for Scholarships” Golf Outing has brought together community members, businesses, alumni, and friends in support of student scholarships. Two familiar faces have been part of the tradition from the very beginning.
Bill Marmalick and Dave Pechawer have participated in the Bay College Golf Outing every year since its inception, making the 2026 outing their 35th year on the course.
Longtime friends and avid golfers, Marmalick and Pechawer have shared countless rounds of golf over the years and continue to maintain a standing weekly tee time. Their friendship and love of the game have also been paired with a longstanding commitment to Bay College. Both serve on the Bay College Golf Committee, helping to plan and support the outing they have participated in since its inception. Both have also been dedicated supporters of the College and its students, with Marmalick serving on the Bay College Foundation Board.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years,” shared Marmalick. “Dave and I have always enjoyed golfing together, and the Bay College Golf Outing is something we look forward to every year. It’s a great event, but more importantly, it supports students and gives back to a college that means a lot to our community. We’re proud to have been part of it from the beginning.”
The milestone was especially meaningful as the Foundation celebrated a record-breaking year for the outing.
“Having Bill and Dave participate in every single Bay College Golf Outing over the past 35 years is incredibly special,” said Bay College Executive Director of Foundation and Alumni Relations Vicki DeGrand. “Their continued support represents exactly what this event is about —community, friendship, tradition, and a commitment to helping Bay College students succeed and reach the finish line. We are so grateful to Bill and Dave, and to all the golfers and sponsors who have helped us grow this event over the years.”
The Bay College Foundation extends its sincere appreciation to the countless sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and supporters who have made the Golf Outing a tradition for the past 35 years.
Save the date: the 36th “Swing for Scholarships” Golf Outing will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2027 at the Escanaba Country Club.
