Bay College invites writers, poets, and creative souls looking for an outlet to submit entries into the annual Bay College Writing Contest.
The contest honors student achievement in fiction, poetry, and short essays. In each category First Prize winners receive $50; Second Prize winners receive $25.
The top two winners from this local contest will be submitted to the statewide LAND Writing Contest (Liberal Arts Network for Development), where cash prizes will be awarded for each category. Bay College has done very well in this competition in the past, with many state-level winners.
The submission deadline for all entries for the Bay College Writing Contest is Wednesday, Dec. 2. Entrants are encouraged to begin preparing their entries by Nov 23. No late or incomplete entries will be considered.
To submit fiction, poetry, or personal essays:
- Each entrant must be sponsored by a faculty member. Students may ask any faculty member to sponsor them, not just English teachers. Student work may only be submitted to the contest by faculty.
- Any Bay College student enrolled in 2026 can submit up to three entries. The three categories are fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction (personal essay).
- All entries must be submitted digitally; entries should be submitted to sponsoring Bay College faculty members early enough for the entries to be reviewed and forwarded. Students may not submit entries directly.
- After entries are submitted, Nanci Love will send entrants the link for the Writing Application. Each entry needs a separate form.
- Link to the category specifications and formatting: https://landconferencemi.com/paper-specifications-and-formatting/
Winning the Bay College or LAND Writing Contest is an achievement that enhances resumes, showing employers the student is an excellent writer and communicator. Winning this contest is also an achievement that helps university application letters stand out.
Please email questions to Nanci Love: nanci.love@baycollege.edu.
The deadline is Wed, Dec 2; students are urged not to wait until the last day to get work forwarded.
Good luck, writers!
